Leisure Suit Larry: Bikini Beach Volley (also known as just Beach Volley) is a volleyball sports game released for J2ME-based mobile phones by Vivendi Games Mobile in 2006. To date, it is the first and only dedicated Leisure Suit Larry sports game.
Plot[]
Larry Laffer coaches his own team of all-female volleyball players.
Gameplay[]
Before each round, the player can buy female volleyball players for their team, each with differing stats. While each girl does have their own artwork, all of them use the same sprites when playing volleyball. The players cannot be directly controlled; instead, the basic gameplay utilizes a “sliding bar” mechanic typical of most golf video games. Between matches, there is a minigame where the player “massages” the athletes by pressing buttons when prompted.

Reception[]
Bikini Beach Volley received mixed to negative reviews from critics. Rob Hearn of PocketGamer rated the game a 5/10. “With unexceptional gameplay, pitiful sound, and cloned sprites standing like mannequins on the sand, Larry Beach Volley is asking for trouble. However, it has the wildcard of bawdy appeal to play.”[1]
Kurt Kalata of Hardcore Gaming 101 described defending and spiking as “unnecessarily hard” and the game overall as “terribly exploitive and not very fun.”[2]
Trivia[]
- Al Lowe was not involved with this game. During an interview with Hardcore Gaming 101, Lowe stated that he had never heard of Bikini Beach Volley until Kurt Katala asked him about it. Lowe said “It sounds...well, it could be funny, I guess. It's all in the execution.”[3]
